Car Window Tint Installation
Car window tint is a simple yet functional car accessory that can protect your car's interior and passengers from harmful UV rays. Window tinting can reduce the heat inside the vehicle and prevent the interior vinyl, upholstery and leather from
fading. You can also avoid the windows from shattering if you tint your car.
The installation of window film is a very simple process. With the proper tools and techniques, you can do it yourself. It is
better to start with smaller windows before applying film to larger windows. Use a small piece of film
to practice the steps before you actually tint a window.
Below is the step-by-step procedure of proper car window tint installation:
1. Before installing car window tint, make sure that your working
area is free from floating dust. You can wet the floor before you begin to eradicate dust particles from being stirred up into the air. You can apply the film anytime
other than in direct sunlight or freezing weather. The best intallation time, however, is early morning or late evening when the
glass is cooler.
2. Create a soapy solution by mixing 1 qt. of water with 1/2 tsp. baby shampoo in a spray bottle. Add the soap to
the water and stir.
3. Measure the window before unrolling and cutting the film. Using
your template as a guide, cut the window-tinting film with a utility knife. The film comes with a clear
backing on it to protect the adhesive. You'll need to pull away this backing to install the tint.
4. Handle
the film very carefully. Just like aluminum foil, once creased, the film will remain creased. Wet the
adhesive surface with the soapy solution. Also wet the inside surface of the window with the same solution.
5. Line up the tint on the window from top then gently lay down onto the glass. Keep the outside of
the film wet, as the solution will act as a lubricant, and use a squeegee to smooth out and remove the water
and bubbles. Take care not to apply too much pressure with the squeegee as this may stretch the film.
6. Cut the excess film in the edges of the window. Leave the window rolled up for at least 3 days so
that the film can cure properly.
