What is a Hybrid Car?

The escalating demand for fuel-efficient cars has paved the way for the invention of various cost-effective vehicles like hybrid cars that run on alternative energy sources. So what exactly is a hybrid car? What makes it different from other cars?

A hybrid car, popularly known as an HEV or hybrid electric vehicle, is an automobile that is powered by two power sources such as an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. Unlike the traditional gas-powered autos, hybrid cars are more environment-friendly because they do not solely depend on non-renewable power sources and fossil fuels. Hybrid cars produce less pollution and are more economical than conventional fuel cars.

Many of the hybrid cars available today use a combination of gasoline and electric engines. Any vehicles that run on two or more sources of power are technically considered hybrid. This combination of two fuel mines allows hybrid cars to run on the normal engine when high equals of power are mandatory. Nowadays, you can choose from a huge selection of hybrid car models in market. Car manufacturers have their own versions of hybrid autos.

A hybrid car usually has a fuel tank for the gasoline engine that is smaller than traditional engine, making it more fuel-efficient. It has an electric motor which can either draw energy from the batteries to power the car or charge the batteries while the car is slowing down. Since a hybrid car has two engines to power a vehicle, it can automatically shut off the gas-powered engine when the car is idle and restart automatically when put back into gear using its electric engine. It also has an advanced aerodynamics that reduce drag.
