BARKING 101

Have you ever wondered why your dog barks?

Before you purchase a bark collar, it is important that you first understand why your dog is barking in the first place. Unless you’re an owner of the non barking breed Basenji, then you probably have heard your dog bark at one time or another. On this page you will find the most common reasons why your dog barks.

  • A dog is a naturally protective animal that protects the home in which they live in. This includes you and your family. So it is perfectly normal for a dog to bark when the doorbell rings or when someone is walking across the yard.

  • Dogs bark when they are lonely and in need of companionship. This is often the response to being contained too long or left alone for a long period of time. This type of barking is prolonged and usually accompanied with whining. This sort of behavior is accepted only if it is not excessive.

  • Dogs often bark to greet a family member. This type of bark is usually a few sharp barks and should not be considered excessive barking.

  • To grab attention, just like lassie (Americas favorite border collie), dogs bark to grab someone’s attention.

  • When you understand why a dog barks then it is easier to make a decision of deciding if your dog needs a bark collar or not. Bark collars are not meant to eliminate barking, but to only stop excessive barking. Bark collars will also eliminate the aggravation and frustration associated with excessive barking. We believe the best solution to eliminate excessive barking is by training your dog on a bark collar.
